Artist Statement

For twenty years I painted in watercolor and oils, but the day I discovered soft pastels I knew I found the medium that worked best for my style of painting. The pure pigment of the soft pastels are what I fell in love with. The freedom of movement still amazes me. It is fresh, and makes me feel like I am dancing with my strokes.

Weeks or years may go by before I actually start a painting that has been on my mind. Much critical thinking is done beforehand. Once I start a painting, a whole world opens up to me, and I let go and intuitively move with the ideas. It is a flourish of painting and I find it fascinating. When the artwork is finished, it is complete and never reworked. that is what keeps the look fresh.

My paintings are rich with life, inspiration and relaxing to live with. Every support, pigment, and framing materials are archival, and meant to last for generations.
