Cathy Morgan - Spiriting Us Into the Art-Chakra Age

Confucius said "And remember, no matter where you go, there you are". What Confuscious meant by these words, in essence, is that no matter how far we advance as a species, ultimately, the root of our existence, our knowledge, our divinity, and our continuance - rests within the chambers of our physical being, which shepherds or souls through this existence.

This concept of an all self-souled divinity is represented as a root-creative force in the work of expressionist-pastel artist Cathy Morgan.

Cathy's Work Reveals the Transformation of The Human Race

Her work reflects humankind's move towards enlightenment, through it interpretation of the body's chakras in each and every painting she manifests. As we propel towards an enlightened consciousness of ascension and spiritual awakening, we are catapulted into the oncoming zodiacal age of aquarius, and Cathy's paintings reveal this transformation of the human race.

Accessing Spiritual Consciousness in Painting

Cathy's desire is to represent each of the seven major chakras of the body in her paintings. It is through this visual representation, that she hopes the viewer might access through her work the chakra's spiritual consciousness, so to tap into their highest level of understanding, and allow it to shepherd them through to their greater purpose.

Chakra As A Key Component In Art

Cathy MorganThe artist reflects "If I realize later I have forgotten to incorporate a chakra into a particular piece, I will discard the work completely and start over and from scratch. Representing this component of my work is as important to me as using pastel, painting with emotion, and maintaining the spontaneous playfulness in my work. My chakra-infusion is at the root and foundation of every aspect of my work".

The Chakras

For you chakra neophytes a "chakra" is a layer of our aura (soul) which embodies particular spiritual and human qualities and abilities, and is represented by specific colors. They are as follows:

Root Chakra – Red; Represents our foundation and feeling of being grounded

  • Sacral Chakra – Orange. Our connection and ability to accept others and new experiences.

  • Solar Plexus Chakra – Yellow. Our ability to be confident and in-control of our lives.

  • Heart Chakra – Green. Our ability to love.

  • Throat Chakra – Blue. Our ability to communicate.

  • Third Eye Chakra – Indigo. Our ability to focus on and see the big picture.

  • Crown Chakra – Violet. The highest Chakra represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually.

The Chakra-Art Undulation

Cathy MorganCathy considers herself one of the first artists that is leading a movement of using art as a channel for these aspects of ourselves, and is passionate to be a part of this oncoming age of spiritual consciousness, and this new Chakra-Art undulation.

Chakra Is a Key Element In Every Painting

The artist quotes “With chakra as a key element in every painting, I have instilled a multi-dimensional value and gateway to a higher consciousness - in every work of my art.

Art and Nature as One

In surveying Cathy’s body of works, the viewer is immediately struck by the chakra flow, energy and pulse of life force her pieces radiate. To the artist, this force is part of a greater human consciousness which we all co-create. The viewer's eye is next enticed by her the abstracted, soft-pastel representations of nature, people, and life. Painting nature, especially trees, seemed a natural choice, as if to remind the spectator that we are all organic matter, a part of a greater whole, and are all one. "My work begins as an open canvas", the artist says "On which the forces of nature and energy express themselves through my eyes, my heart, and my soul."

In conclusion, Cathy’s paintings are nothing short of absolute nirvana, for the eyes, the spirit and soul.

Unbounding Human Existence Through The Art of Cathy Morgan

Cathy Morgan is continuously crafting art that reflects the unbounded discovering of human existence. With her fast and furious method of painting, where she spontaneously applies her pastel paints in response to her drive to bring her artistic ideas to fruition, her dedication to her craft radiate throughout her artistic journey. This artistic journey, which expands over and above the careful selection of her materials and gravitation to particular locations, seeks to delve the viewer to witness the artist's manifestation of our very human existence.

Three New Works Previewed

Cathy's work invigorates a genuine freshness in her art and in her craft. Three new select works are previewed here, and offer a deeper exploration into this artistic purity. In these new pieces, the artist explores one of her greatest loves, the tree. These works demonstrate an interesting and unique expressionistic perspective on the subject. As an homage to the subject, this composition also pays tribute to the greater forces of mother nature, and to our greater oneness and organic existence.

The "Jungle" Series

Cathy MorganOur first work, Enchanted Jungle, is a gorgeous 20” by 20.5” pastel painting. Inspired from her encounters at Phillipe Park near her studio, this setting provided incredible artistic inspiration for Cathy, in addition to becoming a place of sanctuary for the artist. As a sacred Indian mound of the Tocabaga Indians, the tribe of the famous American Indian heroine, Pocahantis, it was this ancient chancel where Cathy began experiencing "dreams" of the mound's magical trees, further ennobling her artistic aspirations for her "Jungle" series of paintings. This dreamland has induced others to seek this haven as a spiritual sanctuary, such as monks and other spiritual refugees, all in a quest to achieve an enlightened raising of consciousness. In this piece, the viewer visualizes this mystical realm, inspired by the dance of its swaying trees, with their purple trunks, with figures in the background.

Cathy's Work Celebrates The Transformation Of Life

Cathy MorganOur next work relays the story of the life of a tree, in an abstracted evolution, of lyrical beauty, process and grounding. In this composition, the artist celebrates the transformation of life, the expression of nature, and of all organic beings. As it expresses the jubilation of nature's process, the artist has aptly named it, "A Tree Grows In The Jungle", and is a little gem at a 10" X 16" pastel.

Oak Jungle

And last but not least, this stunning final composition, is a bewitchingly gorgeous masterpiece depicting an old Oak tree. Titled "Oak Jungle" (7.25" X 9.50"), this oak looms over it's surroundings, which include the artist's studio, demonstrating its prowess. Here, the artist aspires to represent the powerful force which is the process of nature. The composition also reveals a narrative of a place amidst a fantasy or dream. Colors and movement explode on the canvas. Greens and reds fill in the beautiful pastel-blue sky. The scene invokes a feeling of engulfment in an intense and magnificent display of nature, it's universe, and it's infinity.

Cathy Morgan: Artistic Vision & Process

When Cathy Morgan paints, much more is expressed than colors on a page. As a self-taught pastel artist, Cathy holds her own special philosophy and technique trailing behind each and every work she crafts. Although she may paints furiously, on impromptu emotion and inspiration, but make no mistake; Cathy carefully models a vision for the elements, artistic materials, and a scenario all in preparation to commencing a new piece of work. Some examples of this can range from an outlining of how the incorporation a particular chakra will develop into her color theme; to the use of a particular theme from her imagination, or a special location to work in plein-air, in order to spirit a prompt for personal reflection on her perspective of art, spirituality, and humanity.

Artistic Vision

Cathy MorganCathy's artistic vision is a bold statement reflecting her desire to connect with others; not only in a creative sense, but also as a collaborationist of sorts. Her vision communicates a sage-wise melding of art, environment, and energy; and reaches out to those who desire tapping into the imaginative & creative process that bears genuinely innovative art.

Critical Thinking In Art

The artist declares; “Weeks or years may go by before I actually start a painting that has been on my mind. Much critical thinking is done beforehand. Once I start a painting, a whole world opens up to me, and I let go and intuitively move with the ideas. It is a flourish of painting and I find it fascinating. When the artwork is finished, it is complete and never reworked. That is what keeps the look fresh.”

Thinking The Art Through

Well read and spoken, the artist is, above all, is very deliberate in every component of her creative process. “You must ‘think’ the art through, before you ever lay a stroke on the canvas." says the artist. As I see it, this is the defining aspect of what truly sets great art and artists apart from other painters. Think of Degas, Cassatt. How they thought about their approach to their work was everything,”

Wolf Kahn, George Innes, Mark Rothko

When asked which of these great artists inspires her the most deeply and soulfully, Cathy credits legendaries like Wolf Kahn, George Inness, Paul Gauguin and Mark Rothko. As for Kahn, Cathy appreciates the character of his work, especially. With George Inness, Cathy admires the particular relationship the artist establishes between the objects in his work – especially the depths he creates through those relationships, through the use of his colors and pigments. And as for Mark Rothko, Cathy delights in his capacity to draw out soft qualities in a seemingly casual-elegant way - making it seem effortless and easy. In actuality, this ability is one of the most in-depth visual interpretations that exists in the artistic realm.
